Here are two more parts from the eighth-grade standardized test used in Salina, Kan., in 1895 that for the people first presented in last week's column. Remember, this is material that 13-year-olds of 105 years ago were expected to master. Geography (Time limit: one hour).

8) Why is the Atlantic Coast colder than the Pacific in the same latitude?

9) Describe the process by which the water of the ocean returns to the sources of rivers.

10) Describe the movements of the Earth. Give inclination of the Earth.
