John Zogby of Zogby International again predicted the presidential election with near perfection. Here, exclusive to Insight, is what he has to say about the premature, and wrong, calls the TV networks made about the presidential balloting in Florida.

The American people received a paradoxical message on Nov. 7. On one hand we learned that every vote counts. On the other we also have seen how every vote may not be counted.

Every business has its own sausage-making process, and what we are seeing now in Florida confirms the worst suspicions of the half of American adults who did not vote last week. But the VNS exit polls actually did a very good job. Any process based on random-probability sampling has a margin of error. We do not feel that margin of error in a typical election, but given the fact that this one was close in so many ways, and in so many places, we readily can see how embarrassing mistakes might be made.

I believe that VNS did just fine. At 4 p.m. it showed Vice President Al Gore leading in Florida by one percentage point. …
