SOUTHEAST

United Bank of Fairfax, Va., has made its finance manager, Kimberly F. Shrewsbury, a senior vice president.

Ms. Shrewsbury, who joined the bank in 1993, has 22 years of banking experience.

United Bank has also made given Eric Wilson and Wanda Coles assistant vice president.

Mr. Wilson, the manager of its South Arlington branch, joined United in 1998 and has seven years of banking experience. Ms. Coles, a wire transfer and Fed settlement manager, joined in 1992 and has nine years of banking experience.

The bank is a subsidiary of United Bankshares of Charleston, W.Va.

Century Bank in Sarasota, Fla., said chief operating officer John P. O'Neill, an executive vice president, will become its president on Saturday.

He will succeed the retiring James Wade, who has been president of the $289 million-asset bank since he helped establish it in 1985.

Mr. O'Neill was also a director at Century. Before joining the bank, he had been the chief operating officer and president of the Fort Lauderdale-based Gateway American Bank of Florida. Still earlier he had been the president and a director for five years at BankAtlantic in Fort Lauderdale.

He started his career at Manufacturers and Traders Trust Co. in Buffalo, where he worked for 14 years.

MIDDLE ATLANTIC

OceanFirst Financial Corp. in Brick, N.J., has hired Douglas E. Johnson as the managing director of new business development.

Mr. Johnson was the eastern New Jersey president at First Union National Bank, which he joined in 1998 when it acquired his previous employer, First Fidelity Bank of Newark. …
