Craig Chaquico's music is a fusion of his early electric days with Jefferson Starship and his current acoustic sensibility, so his choice of guitar echoes both styles. After struggling with feedback problems, bulkiness, and limited fret access, Chaquico recently switched to a Carvin AC-275 semi-hollow acoustic/electric that feels and plays like an electric and can be amplified without feeding back. Two main factors make the guitar a feedback fighter. First, the reduced size of the acoustic box decreases the likelihood of uncontrolled vibrations. Second, the guitar's Fishman pickups and electronics are well matched to the body. The guitar's top-mounted controls include active bass and treble boost/cut knobs and a master volume.

Chaquico enjoys easy access to the 24 frets, thanks to the AC-275's mahogany neck-through-body construction and large cutaway. Medium jumbo frets (.095" x.048") are used on the 15"-radiused, 25"-scale ebony fingerboard, and the nut is 1 11/16" wide. …
