AN EASTER MONDAY THEFT of a life-sized corpus of the crucified Christ has police searching for clues -- and left St. James the Less Church in La Crecenta, Calif., with only a Risen Christ, the Los Angeles Times reported April 18. The 45-year-old main altarpiece has two corpuses. The crucified Christ was removed and stored for the Easter Sunday services after the altarpiece's Risen Christ was affixed. The 90-pound wooden corpus, valued at about $12,000, disappeared from its storage place behind the main altar.

SR. MARY FRANCES TAYMANS, a Sister of Notre Dame, has been named executive director of the secondary schools department at the National Catholic Educational Association. Taymans currently serves as associate executive director of the department. Her new position is effective July 1. Prior to joining the association in 1993, Taymans was assistant superintendent for secondary schools in the Washington archdiocese. The National Catholic Educational Association's secondary schools department provides leadership, advocacy and service to Catholic secondary schools by offering programs for teachers, administrators, campus ministers and development directors.

CMDR. ROBERT MILEWSKI, a Catholic priest and former naval hospital chaplain, faces a general court-martial for indecent assault and inappropriate sexual conduct. The Associated Press reports that Milewski, who has been in the Navy since 1970, has been charged for incidents with two male sailors alleged to have occurred in his home. …
