Kevin Thompson is managing director of Brandsmiths. He has over 20 years of experience creating and developing brands and was one of the original founders in the 1980s of product development consultancy, Grey Matter.

It can be quite a job to persuade some writers to spare more than a line or two for analysis, which is a pointer to either an in ability or a reluctance to communicate. This chap, however, gave me pages--a pretty sure indicator of two things: (1) he communicates with ease; and (2) he doesn't care a jot about my findings!

He is funny(may be given to practical jokes), logical and creative -- good at talking himself into and then out of some sticky situations.

He is superb under pressure, but contributes a generous part of the pressure in the first place. When I added all the points on his chart I was fascinated to discover that the middle and each side were equal -- an interesting pointer to him having a very high degree of equanimity. If he appears to 'go over the top' it will be an act-something he does to get a result-rather than a loss of control. …
