Deutsche Bank has hired David Jacobs, the co-head of the global consumer group at Morgan Stanley Dean Witter & Co., as its own head of global consumer investment banking.

He was also named a managing director, which was his rank at Morgan Stanley. He is based in New York and reports to Michael Cohrs and Bob Cotter, co-heads of global corporate finance.

Mr. Jacobs first joined the old Morgan Stanley Group in 1988, in its mergers and acquisitions department. In 1990 he moved to Hambro America, the U.S. affiliate of Hambros Bank Ltd. of London, as co-head of corporate finance and a managing director. He returned to Morgan Stanley in 1993.

HSBC Bank USA in Buffalo has hired Marc Chandler as its chief currency strategist for the United States.

He was also named a senior vice president. He is based in New York and reports to Alain Delelis, managing director of foreign exchange trading.

Mr. Chandler held a similar post at Mellon Financial Corp., where he worked for two years. Before that he had been a vice president and the senior currency strategist at Deutsche Bank, where he worked for three years. He has 15 years of experience in the foreign exchange market.

New York Life Insurance Co. has created an Internet division in its special markets department and put Kenneth Hittel in charge.

Mr. Hittel remains a vice president. He also remains responsible for the company's Web site but now is also in charge of its corporate intranet and of building a knowledge management practice, New York Life said.

Earlier, as an assistant vice president in the company's agency department, he had been the webmaster of New York Life's Web site and designed and launched the company's agency and employee intranet sites. Still earlier he had been the assistant vice president of marketing in charge of creating the company's sales collateral system. …
