XTRA PC version 1.3, a micro-to-mainframe data transfer package, gives personal computer users the ability to download and use selected mainframe data in their favorite PC applications, without spending hours re-keying data, transferring entire files, or depending on their corporate MIS departments.

With XTRA PC, produced by Cone Software Laboratory, Inc., PC users can transfer mainframe data that can be displayed on their screens into virtually any PC application program, including word processors, spreadsheets, database programs, and graphic presentation packages.

The $295 package makes possible these and other operations: . Capture accounting data to prepare end of the month reports using a spreadsheet package. . Copy customer names and addresses and prepare personalized letters and mailing labels in a PC word processor. . Use transaction data to prepare overhead graphs and charts using PC graphics software.

According to Cone Software, prior to the release of XTRA PC, users who wanted to use mainframe data in the PC applications had two choices: they could manually copy the data from a terminal screen and re-key it into the PCs, or they could work with the corporate MIS or DP departments to use complicated file transfer software. …
