New monitors ease eye strain

Cupertino, Calif.--Having seen users with tired eyes turn to other vendors for relief, Apple Computer Inc. has introduced two larger-screen, high-resolution monitors of its own. The Apple Two-Page Monochrome Monitor features a 21-inch, high-resolution screen with an active display area that can display two U.S. letter-size or A4-size pages of graphics and text, plus the Macintosh menu and scroll bars. It's priced at $2,149. The 15-inch Apple Macintosh Portrait Display, priced at $1,099, reportedly displays an entire page of text and graphics as crisply as the original 9-inch Macintosh monitor. Like the Two-Page Monitor, it runs at a 75Hz scan rate, reducing eye fatigue by minimizing image flicker.

Reacting to Apple's introductions, Radius Inc. slashed prices up to 18 percent for its Macintosh-based display products. The Radius Full Page Display's price dropped to $895; the Radius Two Page Display was lowered to $1,495.
