Bmi Chief Quits for Travel Agency Role

Bmi british midland sales and marketing chief John Morgan is leaving the airline to head a mid-sized business travel agency, just months after overseeing bmi's rebranding from British Midland.

Morgan departs at the end of the month to become chief executive of Travelforce, based in London's Canary Wharf. Bmi has not yet found a replacement for him.

At bmi Morgan heads a staff of 600 and has a marketing budget of [pound]2m. At Travelforce, he will command a staff of 75, with three offices. The company, majority-owned by the Hickey family, boasts a [pound]39m turnover.

Morgan said he would be replacing Travelforce's previous chief executive, Niall Hickey, who died recently. "It was looking for someone to come in and run the business, so it approached me, and we spoke about it quite long and hard and it just sounded right."
