QUAKER

The Quaker Oats Company can trace its roots back to 1877, when miller Henry Crowell first used the trademark Quaker Man logo. Crowell was one of seven millers who formed the American Cereal Company of Chicago in 1891, which was renamed The Quaker Oats Company in 1901.

Quaker Oats Ltd (UK) is part of the European Foods business of the US-based Quaker Oats Company. Quaker operates through two main divisions: Beverages and Foods. The company's brands are marketed through out the world, but about 80% of sales and 90% of operating income is derived from the United States and Canada.

Since 1995, Quaker has sold a number of non-core businesses and moved into the soft drinks market, with its Gatorade brand, which now accounts for about 40% of sales and operating income. In December 2000 the company agreed to be acquired by PepsiCo in a deal thought to be worth about $13.4bn ([pound]9.6bn).

In April 2000 Quaker launched a new rice-cake snack called Snack-a-Jacks. It was the top Quaker brand supported by advertising in the year to March 2001, with [pound]1,818,512 (Source: MMS). …
