He says they occurred to him after learning that authorities in California had recommended folks there watch the Super Bowl in groups as a way to conserve electricity. "Years of exposure to EPA [Environmental Protection Agency] solutions have left me with a good grasp of the way government solves these problems," Hamlin writes. His approach to the energy dilemma includes the following "far-reaching solutions":

* When pushing an electric lawn mower, run, don't walk.

* If you have an electric shaver, shave only every other day. If your job requires public contact, try shaving only one side of your face each day and working in profile.

* Limit television viewing to channels 2 through 5.

* Set electric clocks one hour slow.

* To shift usage patterns, burn electric lights only during the daytime.

* Instead of using the electric starter on your car, get a hand crank and exercise as you save energy. …
