Apparently, you can go home again: Des McAnuff has been appointed artistic director of California's La Jolla Playhouse, a post he held for the 2001 season on an interim basis. A prolific playwright and director, McAnuff was the theatre's artistic director from 1983 (when the playhouse was revived after remaining dark for two decades) through 1994. Under his stewardship, the playhouse won the 1993 Tony award as America's outstanding regional theatre. According to McAnuff: "When the board of trustees asked me to step in for the 2001 season after the departure of Anne Hamburger, I had no idea I would be staying any longer. But I realized that I enjoyed running the theatre again and I sensed that the institution's needs and my own desires were coalescing." McAnuff brings with him a new artistic staff, including Kate Whoriskey, who will become the playhouse's new associate director. Shirley Fishman and Carey Ryan were hired to run the theatre's dramaturgy and literary departments.

Theatre Development Fund, a New York-based organization providing audience development and financial assistance to the performing arts, has selected Victoria Bailey as its new executive director. Bailey was general manager of Manhattan Theatre Club for 15 years.

After seven years as managing director of Missouri Repertory Theatre in Kansas City, Daniel Baker will replace Brian Payne in that position at Indiana Repertory Theatre.
