RIMS IS ABOUT NETWORKING AND EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES. People get together at our conferences and in chapter meetings to share knowledge. The annual Risk and Insurance Management Society Joint Educational Conference, to be held this year in the Naples Ritz Carlton from August 13 to 18, is a premier example of such opportunities. This year, the conference organizers have graciously allotted conference time for a field test of the first RIMS Fellow workshop.

The workshop, "Perspectives on Risk Management: An ERM Approach," has been developed over the past seven months under the watchful eye of the RIMS education committee. You might ask: "What would I do in an enterprise risk management workshop?" A good question. Should we tell people the importance of managing risks across the organization? They know this already. The program consists of four modules that will allow participants to choose specific topics of interest. In each module, a facilitator will set up a situation that allows teams of attendees to examine different problems. The teams will analyze the situations by asking: What does ERM tell us to do about it? What would you do about it in your organization?

Rather than being lectured, experienced risk professionals can share their experiences and insights. …
