BBC.Co.UK Makes Top Position in League of Information Offerings

News and information sites have firmly established themselves among the most frequently visited destinations in the UK.

Almost one-third of at-home users in June logged on to news and information sites. BBC.co.uk, which provides links to online programme information, weather, radio stations and the BBC news service, has a clear lead at the top of the category rankings. Seven of the top sites relate to traditional print or broadcast media news suppliers.

Of those, CNN positions itself as a truly global news brand; the rest are from UK-based newspapers or broadcasters. Two purely online news services, About.com and Weather.com, make up the rankings.

Web property rankings combine all sites that are majority owned by the same company and give an indication of audience share on the web. The rankings show that Microsoft is still by far the most established web brand. Yahoo! and AOL are almost inseparable in second and third place, while the companies in fourth to tenth position are separated by a 15% reach of the UK's at-home internet audience. …
