Amazon.com has handed its pan-European media account, believed to be worth about [pound]8m, to OMD UK.

OMD will handle media for Amazon's European sites in the UK, Germany and France, as well as any other European territories the e-tailer moves into in the future. In the UK, the agency replaces incumbent Total Media.

As well as securing media space, OMD's task is expected to encompass a significant amount of joint promotional activity with other companies.

The appointment follows a competitive pitch against several undisclosed agencies. It marks the culmination of a lengthy review the e-tailer initiated at the end of last year to centralise its ad arrangements.

The company shifted its $50m ([pound]35m) global creative account in June to Wieden & Kennedy to communicate a more consistent brand message across its territories. It replaced FCB Worldwide in the US and HHCL and Partners in the UK.

Amazon spent about [pound]26m of its budget in the US, while its UK operation accounted for [pound]4. …
