IPC Media to Abandon Trio of Failing Web Sites

IPC Media will this week cull three of its internet sites with the loss of 90 jobs in a bid to rationalise its portfolio of web brands ahead of its takeover by AOL Time Warner.

The three casualties are BEME.com, which closes just four months after a relaunch; unmissabletv.com, belonging to IPC's digital TV information brand Unmissable TV and Loaded's uploaded.com.

All three will be switched off this Friday, August 31.

The cuts affect staff working on the specific sites as well as technical and support staff who have worked across IPC's online portfolio.

BEME executive editor Eleni Kyriacou has moved to head special projects for Now, while BEME commercial director Sarah Fitzgerald quit two weeks ago to become head of buying at Tesco's menswear clothing division.

Although the web site will cease to exist, Unmissable TV will continue to supply content to other parties.

The action follows a review of IPC Media's online businesses by group strategy director Julian Drinkall. …
