A major priority for any organisation, with a downturn looming, has to be profit protection, and ensuring assets are used cost-effectively. Staff are the most important asset and investing in training and retaining loyal staff is key. But are agencies approaching training in the correct manner?

I believe many offer training for training's sake. Sometimes it is done in-house or staff are sent on training courses which have little or no relevance to their needs.

Individuals are often asked to fill in a list and choose what training they need. But are individuals really best placed to identify what their needs are? Companies need to invest more time in discovering the needs of individuals. This means seeking out those are as where training is needed and discovering and nurturing talents that you may not have realised an individual has.
