It seems almost unbelievable, but Thanksgiving and the Winter Holidays are just around the corner once again. I always think of Thanksgiving as a time for reflection. Those of us at EP certainly have a lot to be thankful for, the most important of which is that after 30 years, we still have the good fortune to serve and be active participants in the community of people with disabilities. While the scope of what we do has expanded significantly over the years, we have kept in the forefront of our efforts the mission of our company: to provide practical advice and emotional support for families of children and adults with disabilities and special healthcare needs, and the professionals who are committed to their care and development. It is fitting then that as we enter our third decade, the EP family will host an extraordinary gathering on November 10-12, 2000 in Atlanta, Georgia, shortly before Thanksgiving: the World Congress & Exposition on Disabilities.

This event, the first of its kind ever in the world, brings together families, advocates, direct support professional/caregivers, special education teachers, physicians, researchers, and the government. We have assembled internationally recognized leaders in their respective fields in an educational setting that spans the entire spectrum of disabilities including movement disorders, autism, mitochondrial and metabolic disorders, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorders (ADD/ADHD), learning disabilities, educational challenges, and parenting issues. Over 200 exhibits from quality product and service manufacturers will be on display, and events are planned for the entire family, including entertainment for children. The conference, a reflection of EP's mission, will focus on improving the quality of life for those with disabilities and special healthcare needs.

The EP family is also grateful for the acknowledgement we continue to receive for editorial excellence. I am happy and proud to share with you that EP was recently honored by the Health Information Resource Center with three National Health Information Awards in the Consumer Decision-Making Information class.
