THE 2001 LATIN American Film Festival, which takes place September 13-23 in Washington, D.C., will highlight recent productions from fifteen countries.

"This event offers the public in Washington the chance not just to see some new films, but to appreciate the richness, creativity, and diversity of contemporary Latin American culture," said Ana Milena de Gaviria, President of the Cultural Foundation of the Americas. The foundation is organizing the festival in conjunction with the American Film Institute (AFI) and the Association of Ibero-American Cultural Attaches, with sponsorship from the the OAS, the Inter-American Development Bank, Riggs Bank, and Delta Airlines.

Now in its fourth consecutive year, the 2001 Latin American Film Festival will feature two countries for the first time: Honduras (Anita, Hunter of Insects) and Panama (a collection of short subjects). The other countries represented are Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Spain, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
