BT Heads UK Property Owner List Following Major Online Expansion

Property figures combine data from all sites that are majority owned by the same company, and allow us to look at which brands companies are exploiting to execute their online strategies.

The top property rankings are dominated by a host of global technology companies, which feed on the high recognition and appeal of internet brands within their portfolio.

The only UK-based company appearing within the top five is BT, which has increased its audience reach by adding numerous sites to its portfolio. It now owns 40 sites, compared with nine in January 2000. BT has climbed the property rankings from ninth in January 2000 to fifth in July 2001.

Microsoft, on the other hand, has strengthened its corporate appeal as the definitive source of software worldwide by developing consumer portal MSN to achieve a foothold in different online markets.

According to Jupiter MMXI's global domain or brand rankings, MSN has been the number one site since June last year, which supports Microsoft's corporate and consumer dominance at the top of the property rankings. …
