Over the past six months we have seen a number of successful young executies facing major decisions about what to do next. They may have moved from traditional consulting firms to companies like ours, left a big corporation for a start-up or moved from a major investment bank to a venture capitalist.

For many of these young professionals, the explosion of the New Economy was an opportunity to create new work cultures. It was about throwing out the rules of corporate behaviour. As the bubble burst, many bright stars have been left adrift.

They haven't all gone back to the traditional world and many of them face a real quandary about what to do now. To which companies can they go where the positive changes they can help instigate will be appreciated?

There is a real opportunity to recruit these bright individuals and reap the benefits of taking on board what they learned about effecting change and creating better working cultures. But how can companies attract, recruit and retain them-given that exciting new challenges and the opportunity to build and shape something are likely to be their key motivations? …
