ROYAL & SUNALLIANCE

Royal & SunAlliance was created in July 1996, when two of Britain's largest insurance companies, Royal Insurance and Sun Alliance, merged. Business is divided into commercial and personal financial services (life, unit trust and general insurance products for individuals). The group is organised into four time-zone based regions-the UK, continental Europe, the Americas and Asia-Pacific.

In March 2001, Royal & SunAlliance became the first UK insurer to offer SMS text messaging to update customers on the progress of their claims. The following May, the company sold its insurance subsidiary, Swinton, to MMA Insurance for [pound]54m.

In June that year, Royal & SunAlliance spent [pound]20m on a integrated ad campaign for its new More Th[greater than]n brand, utilising e-mail, interactive TV, WAP, SMS and outdoor ads featuring a lost dog called Lucky.

The company and its subsidiaries made charitable donations of [pound]3.5m during 2001. The group has a particular interest in the environment and takes an enlightened approach to the use of energy, the purchase of materials such as paper and waste disposal. …
