TfL Picks M&C Saatchi for [Pound]25m Ad Business

Transport for London (TfL) this week handed M&C Saatchi an estimated [pound]25m marketing brief to oversee advertising for the capital's transport system as well as London Mayor Ken Livingstone's proposed congestion charging scheme.

M&C takes over the corporate TfL ad account, estimated to be worth between [pound]8m and [pound]9m, from Partners BDDH, which held the business for just under two years. TBWA\London, Leo Burnett, McCann-Erickson, WCRS and Euro RSCG Wnek Gosper also pitched.

TfL's responsibilities include street management, the public carriage office and London buses. Though it does not control London Underground, TfL does handle marketing for the Tube.

Congestion charges project marketing, expected to be worth [pound]16m, had been widely tipped to go to Euro RSCG Wnek Gosper, which has worked with Livingstone in the past and is a Greater London Authority roster agency.

However, a TfL spokesman confirmed M&C's appointment to both projects, saying it would be more "cost-effective" to have a single agency working on the business. …
