New NYU Arts Scholarship Program Receives $20 Million Donation. (Money Matters)

New York University officials say the school will get $20 million to create an arts scholarship program that will draw students from around the world.

Alberto Vilar, the 60-year-old Cuban-born, self-described billionaire and president and founder of Amerindo Investment Advisors, added the university to his list of donations to the classical performing arts, according to The New York Times.

"This program is so uniquely, naturally brilliant," Vilar told the Times. "In a couple of years, when you say, `I'm a Vilar scholar,' that means you came to the best school and the cultural center of the world. You've studied under a number of extraordinary specialists. You interacted with New York in this live laboratory."

Though not a graduate of NYU, Vilar took courses there in a doctoral program in mathematical economics that he never completed, according to published reports.
