Study Finds Anheuser-Busch Largest Alcohol Supplier

Almost one-fourth of all the alcohol consumed by Americans is supplied by Anheuser-Busch, and the next four largest brewers furnish another fourth of the total consumption, according to a study by the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI). CSPI said its study is the first to compute the percentage of alcohol that each major company provides in the U.S. "The more alcohol a company produces, the more drunk-driving, social problems, and deaths for which it must share responsibility," said CSPI Executive Director Michael Jacobson.

Beer is 58% of Alcohol Consumed

The study found that beer provides 58 percent of the alcohol Americans consume, liquor 29 percent, and wine 13 percent. The top alcoholic beverage producers and the percentage of alcohol their products provided in 1987, include:
