Sharing and Celebrating Exemplary Career and Technical Programs

The National Dissemination Center for Career and Technical Education at Ohio State University identifies what works in career and technical education, designates "exemplary" and "promising" career-tech programs across the United States and shares information with practitioners about best practices.

The center invites educators to nominate outstanding career and technical education programs for the "Exemplary Career-Technical Education Program" designation. Eligible programs include career and technical programs at the secondary and postsecondary levels that have been in operation for at least ! two years and have clear and convincing data of exceptional program performance.

Nomination forms will be available online by November 1, 2001 at www.nccte.com. Applications for the 2002 designations must be submitted by May 31, 2002.

Free Books for Visual Learners

Visibooks creates computer books with hundreds of illustrations and very little text--and makes them downloadable for flee. The publisher designed the books for visual learners but believes that beginning computer users will find the visual method of instruction appealing. According to Visibooks, their method has been praised by both students and computer teachers.

Visibooks CEO Chris Charuhas is a former computer instructor who says, "Most people learn visually. They find it easier to see, rather than read, how things are done."

Visibooks offers books on Dreamweaver 4, FrontPage 2000, HTML, JavaScript, Web Project Management and Fireworks 4. New titles on Palm PDAs and Pocket PCs are planned for publication by the end of the year.

Bound copies of the publications can be purchased from the company's Web site (www.visibooks.com) and will be available in bookstores later this year. Visibooks believes the usefulness and convenience of the spiral-bound books will encourage many people to purchase them in order to avoid the inconvenience of printing out digital files.
