Dear Readers,

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

In these few words, "Congress shall make no law," the First Amendment creates an absolute prohibition against infringement of our most basic rights.

What brings this to mind, of course, are current events. Just as the FBI issues national alerts of possible terrorist acts, our president and government leaders encourage us to remain calm and go on with our daily lives. It rather reminds one of being in a hospital sound asleep only to be wakened by a nurse to take a sleeping pill.

We are not mocking those entrusted with our safety. Rather, it has become clear that the president is waging war on multiple fronts, including some within his own administration. …
