BOOK Did you get any backlash from the food industry after Kitchen Confidential?

BOURDAIN Amazingly enough, from people in the industry, from chefs--even from great chefs with very little in common with the kind of kitchens I am talking about--nothing but fantastic, positive reactions. All over the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia, I've been treated unbelievably well. I've never had so much free food and free liquor in my life.

BOOK What's going on with your new book, A Cook's Tour?

BOURDAIN I did a lot of travel for the book. Since last December I've been traveling all over the world, eating my way around pretty scary places and simultaneously shooting a TV show, a sort of a cinema verite, unscripted TV show for The Food Network, and taking notes for this sort of gonzo travel book. The show will be on TV in January.
