Pursuit of Happiness Sometimes Curtailed for Folks in Far East. (for the People)

Governments react in differing ways their wonders to perform, as two recent Far East dispatches from Reuters reveal. This fall, for example, Malaysian Health Minister Chua Jui Meng responded in a scolding manner after learning that Malaysian men now are the highest per-capita users of the anti-impotence drug Viagra. Chua evidently heard lots of the snickers that usually accompany any mention of Viagra and announced that the statistic was no laughing matter. "This is alarming and definitely a cause for concern, not a cause for celebration," said Chua, very ruffled after learning that an estimated 40,000 Malaysian men had been using Viagra regularly since its arrival in the country.

There's no word on what the Malaysian health minister plans to do about the problem. But in nearby Thailand, there was no doubt what the government would do about moonshine laws that many thought too restrictive: It decided to do away with them. …
