This is a time in our nation's history for truly appreciating what it means to be an American. It is a time to reflect upon our rich cultural diversity and our many precious resources. And of all our natural resources, the greatest is our people. Their wide arrays of talents and skills have brought success and prosperity to our country. We are artists and engineers, craftspeople and scientists, health care providers and agriculturalists--and together we have built the greatest country on earth. Our differences have sometimes created difficulties, but ultimately, they are our greatest strength.

In this issue of Techniques, we try to understand a little bit more about the different ways individuals think and learn. A greater understanding of individual intelligences and learning styles may contribute to the educational process for both students and teachers, but this understanding has benefits outside the walls of educational institutions. It may lead to a greater respect and appreciation for individual abilities. …
