Art Community Continues to Support Victims of September 11

Article excerpt

Though it's been a few months since the tragic events of Sept. 11th, members of the art industry continue to support the cause. Here are just a few of the continuing projects of artists, publishers, galleries and more who are working to commemorate and celebrate America, the victims of the atrocities at the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Washington D.C. and in rural Pennsylvania and the surviving friends and family of our nation's fallen heros.

1 Artist Jody Bergsma's fall opening, "A Passion for Freedom," was presented Nov. 9 to 11 at the Jody Bergsma Gallery in Bellingham, Wash. "Together We Stand ... United We Soar" will be reproduced as a limited-edition print and will also be available in Bergsma's full line of products. A portion of all proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Call 800-237-4762 or visit www.bergsma.com.

2 On Sept. 14, Discovery Galleries hosted a one-man show for artist Rob Gonsalves. The artist was unable to get a flight out of Chicago, but he spoke to the fans through speaker phone. Owner Boots Harris led a prayer in honor of the Sept. 11th victims and reported that the show mood was festive and sales were brisk.

3 Cottage Garden Collections presents "We are the Eagle in the Storm" by artist D. Morgan. All net proceeds from the sale of the print and the sale price of the original will benefit the NY Firefighters 9-11 Disaster Relief Fund. Call 877-210-3456 or e-mail mtimm@cgcollections.com.

4 Chalk & Vermilion Fine Arts and artist Kerry Hallam are donating 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale of Hallam's original painting "Still Standing" to the New York Police and Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund.

5 Artist David Marshall created "In God We Trust" in honor of the victims of Sept. 11. For more information, call (253) 677-5192 or visit www. …
