Dear Readers,

What more can be said that Osama bin Laden hasn't said in the captured tape released by the Pentagon. Perhaps only that it shows the Arab Afghan wannabe is nothing more than a thug hiding behind a great religion. Decent Muslims and others have known clearly since Sept. 11 that bin Laden is a tin-pot pretender who cares nothing for human life, including the lives of his followers.

What brings these things to mind are issues involving responsibility, whether among nations or tribes or corporate families. Irresponsibility often means neglect of people, groups, family and, in the case of corporations, employees and investors. The cover story on the Enron Corp. is a case in point. Greed guided many there, including regulators and lawmakers, who didn't want to upset the gravy train. One need not even ask how it happened. Rather, the question now boils down to this: Who among our leaders in Congress, the administration and among regulators will go after criminal acts that Arthur Andersen LLP's chief has testified he believes occurred there? …
