EBSCO Announces New Content Availability. (Internet Today)

Article excerpt

EBSCO Publishing has announced the integration of additional back years of BIOSIS' Biological Abstracts (BA) database, the full text of the American Medical Association Collection database, and INSPEC through its EBSCOhost service. EBSCO has also announced that it now offers the Kiplinger Finance & Forecasts (KFF) database to corporations and public libraries through an agreement with The Kiplinger Washington Editors, Inc.

Biological Abstracts

BA, which indexes articles from more than 4,000 international life sciences serials, is now available back to 1980 via EBSCOhost. EBSCOhost previously held BA records back to 1994. By adding 14 years of coverage, EBSCOhost has tripled the number of BA records its users can access.

"Researchers rely on the science of the past' said Linda Sacks, BIOSIS' senior vice president of marketing and sales. "Current studies build on the findings of previous ones, so it's important to understand how they all fit together. By adding back years to the Biological Abstracts data file, EBSCO provides its users with more access to critical life sciences research. We are pleased that an industry leader like EBSCO sees the value of extending its Biological Abstracts offerings."

Bethany Close, product manager for licensed databases at EBSCO Publishing, said: "The decision to take the Biological Abstracts dataset back to 1980 initially stemmed from customer feedback. As BIOSIS is one of the foremost providers of life science content to the library community, we are confident this will be a great addition to our product offerings. EBSCOhost's linking capability further enhances a researcher's experience with Biological Abstracts by allowing him or her to seamlessly access full-text information from other EBSCOhost full-text databases, e-journals, etc."

AMA Database

The American Medical Association Collection is a database of American Medical Association (AMA) journals that includes JAMA: Journal of the American Medical Association, Archives of Internal Medicine, and other AMA publications.

According to the announcement, EBSCO SmartLinks, available with all EBSCOhost databases, further increase the value of the American Medical Association Collection. All of the AMA journals included in this database are indexed in MEDLINE and many are indexed in CINAHL. When searching these databases on EBSCOhost, the resulting citations from AMA journal articles will link directly to the full text of the article for those subscribing to the American Medical Association Collection. …
