As International Artexpo New York celebrates its 24th anniversary this year, it does so with the pride of serving as the world's largest and strongest international art fair.

The statistics speak volumes. This year, nearly 50,000 attendees--including art buyers, interior designers, gallery owners, art dealers and collectors--will descend upon the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center from Feb. 28 to March 4 for the 2002 edition of International Artexpo New York. Here, they will peruse the booths of some 600 exhibitors representing top businesses in the art and framing industry. On display will be the work of more than 2,400 artists in such media as original paintings, prints, posters, sculpture, photography and decorative art.

And, this year, Artexpo New York has bulked up even more, increasing its size to include a 75,000-square-foot International Art & Framing Gallery, a trade-only area dedicated to open-edition prints, frames and framing equipment that will run concurrently with Artexpo through March 3. Doreen Guerin, show manager, called the new gallery "another step in our ongoing commitment to serve the needs of the entire art and framing community."

The arena also promises to meet the needs of both exhibitors and attendees alike. "During the past several years, we've seen a trend emerge as art galleries are offering custom framing, and more and more professional framers are selling art in their shops," said Guerin. "We've had innumerable requests from both buyers and exhibitors for a single source where trade attendees can buy both art and framing materials." The International Art & Framing Gallery, she said, was added directly in response to these requests as well as in response to the results of a recent survey, which indicated that one-third of total buyers last year attended Artexpo specifically to purchase frames and framing products.

Other exciting events planned for Artexpo New York 2002 include the keynote address, "Trends in American Life," presented by Holly Moore of the Yankelovich MONITOR Client Service Group (see page 44 for details), which will open the show on March 1. Plus, scheduled seminars will explore topics such as gallery lighting, legal and liability issues, trends in photography, art on the Internet and the art of giclee, with presenters from such magazines as Metropolitan Home magazine, American Photo magazine and Art Business News. …
