SHAKESPEARE'S GLOBE: Celebrate the Bard's birthday--April 23--two days early with a traditional sonnet walk through Tudor London. Twelve sonneteers will entertain troopers along the route to Shakespeare's Globe. There, the following month, the 'Season of Cupid and Psyche" begins, with productions of Twelfth Night and A Midsummer Night's Dream in repertory with Peter Oswald's new comedy, The Golden Ass. In the latter play, an insatiably curious young man, wishing to transform himself into a wise owl, takes the wrong potion and ends up an ass. His equine perspective provides a unique point of view on the tales he tells, including the strange marriage of Psyche to her winged bowman of love. VIENNA FESTIVAL: A 30-something woman and her dead twin brother are the leading characters in Alize Zandwijk's Dutch-language production of Marina Carr's Portia Coughlan. The Kitchen pairs Austrian writer Peter Handke with Serbian director Miaden Materic, in a choreographed theatre piece focusing on the inhabitants of an old-fashioned kitchen in Central Europe. Wallace Shawn's The Designated Mourner, with Shawn in the title role, casts a cold eye on political oppression and family alliances, under the direction of Andre Gregory. This is but a small sampling of the riches waiting for Vienna-bound theatregoers next month. Robert Lepage, Theatre de Complicite, Argentine puppet-theatre troupe El Periferico de Objectos, and Festival helmer Luc Bondy are among the giant event's other international artists. …
