Granada Media Backs Calls for TV Ad Bureau

The establishment of a body responsible for marketing TV as an ad medium has received cautious backing from the UK's largest TV sales house, Granada Media.

Speaking to delegates at TV Prague last week, Granada Media chief executive Graham Duff said that he was happy for Granada to contribute to a debate about the establishing of a TV Advertising Bureau.

News that TV companies including Channel 5 were in talks about setting up a TV equivalent of the Radio Advertising Bureau was revealed exclusively in Marketing (October 11,2001). At the time, only Channel 5 was prepared too go on the record to confirm its participation in the talks.

Duff's comments came in response to calls by Nestle Rowntree marketing director Andrew Harrison and Masterfoods European media manager Angus McIntosh for the TV industry to join forces to market TV as an ad medium.

Harrison said: "You've got to sell TV again and because this is an industry agenda you need to sell it as an industry. …
