Thomas N. Applegate Wins President-Elect Post

Thomas N. Applegate, executive dean at Austin Community College in Austin, Texas, was elected in the annual mail balloting to the office of president-elect of the Association for Career and Technical Education. He will preside as president during 2003-04.

Applegate has served as vice president of the New and Related Services Division, chairman of the Legislative Committee, board liaison to the Legislative Committee and board liaison to the Bylaws Committee. He has also served on the ACTE Executive Director Search Committee, the Executive Committee, the Program Improvement and Policy Development Subcommittee, and the Finance and Organization Subcommittee.

Applegate has been executive dean at Austin Community College since 1998 and is also on the business management faculty at the school. From 1993 to 1997, he was the associate state director for business/industrial training and development at the Ohio Department of Education Division of Vocational, Career and Adult Education, where he had also served as assistant state director for business industrial training and development. Applegate served on the faculty of The Ohio State University from 1972 to 1997, and from 1982 to 1997 on the adjunct faculty at Columbus State Community College. He was state supervisor of marketing education for the Ohio Department of Education from 1972 to 1985 and marketing education coordinator for Fredericktown Local Schools 1968-1972. …
