Criminals Couldn't Care Less about Antigun Legislation. (Correspondence)

Has the world gone completely nuts? Anyone can buy a gun on the street almost anywhere in the country for a fraction of what legitimate gun shops or vendors at gun shows must charge ["An Antigun Firefight," April 22].

Not too long ago in a syndicated article, Chuck Goudie cited a survey taken in the Chicago area that found the average price to buy a handgun on the street was less than $30. There was no waiting period, there were no background checks and there were no records kept.

All this baloney about "closing loopholes" is just that--baloney! Criminals are streetwise. They don't patronize gun shops or gun shows. And they don't care about how many antigun laws are passed. By definition they are in professions that break the laws that the rest of us obey.

Why doesn't the mainstream media point out the hypocrisy and demagoguery in all this? It can't be that the media and antigun activists are all so dumb and blind that they don't understand. …
