Aircall goes all out for all-in phone package

Mobile phone service Aircall Communications has launched a new all-inclusive package that paves the way for the mass-market distribution of mobile phones through high street retailers.

Aircall has already signed agreements with 180 retailers, including Dixons, to sell the Car Call package and aims to have a total of 250 by the end of the year. The package includes a carphone, insurance and service back-up, and 30 minutes airtime, all to be provided for a monthly charge of 49.95 [pounds].

The launch is backed by a 1m [pounds] advertising campaign which breaks this week in the national press.

Aircall's managing director Dan Norman says that high street distribution was essential for his plans to reach smaller business people, many of whom were confused by the numerous "free" offers and cut-price phones on the market.

"There are so many variations on the `buy cheap now, hidden charges later' theme that we felt the time was right for a new approach," says Norman. "We wanted to go through the retailers and they had a big input into this programme. …
