Remington has parted company with its UK managing director Simon Russell in a bust-up over a radical repositioning of the brand and its endorsement by celebrity couple David and Victoria Beckham.

Russell told Marketing last month that the board of Remington, including chief executive and chairman of the US-based business Neil DeFeo, had handed him a brief to reposition the shaver brand globally (Marketing, June 27).

But this week DeFeo said: 'Russell no longer has any association with Remington.' He refused to disclose any details of Russell's departure from the company, but said that Remington plans to 'continue with its marketing efforts'.

At the centre of the row is Russell's determination to get the Beckhams to be the celebrity faces of Remington in its global repositioning ads.

Russell said: 'The fit between me and Remington broke down because I pushed very hard to get the Beckhams deal. The firm decided I was a bit too revolutionary for it. …
