Imagine being invited to a party where a nervous host dashes in and out of the kitchen, bringing out the dishes as soon as they become available. Many dishes are either burned or half-baked because preparations for the party are disorganized.

In the weeks we worked with INVESTigator software, we received, in addition to the originals, two software updates and a new manual. Even the final" versions had "bugs" in them, and the manual was foggy. Perhaps this is a new approach to software development - using reviewers as beta-testers.

INVESTigator produces price charts, plots a handful of indicators and performs limited data base management and profitability testing. It aspires to be a " toolbox " for traders at the very bottom of the price range.

Its quality, unfortunately, is just as low as its price. INVESTigator cannot even plot opening prices or open interest, making it of little use to futures traders. Nor does it let you track T-bonds because it will not accept prices in 32nds. To collect data and maintain your data base, you must buy another module," which works with only one commercial data base.

Your data can be plotted in high-low-close format on either full or split screen. The charts look bright and colorful, but the price update sometimes causes the program to hang," forcing you to turn off the computer.
