Young men age 18-34 make almost as many shopping trips each week as their female peers do, according to WSL Strategic Retail. Women in this age group go shopping 4.1 times a week, while men go shopping 3.6 times. Women age 18-34 visit 1.9 stores each time, while their male peers visit 1.6 stores.

Young women and men are increasingly drawn to specialty clothing stores; 37% of each group say they're shopping more often at these outlets than they were last year. Young men are more likely than young women to be increasing their trips to department stores: 22% of men 18-34 say they're shopping more in department stores this year than they did last year, compared to 16% of women who are doing so. Men are also increasing their visits to the mall: 29% of young men are shopping more in malls now than a year ago, as are 18% of women the same age.

Overall, young men's attitudes toward shopping are beginning to resemble those of young women rather than those of older men, with young men taking a greater interest in clothing and health & beauty aids than their predecessors did. …
