Dear Readers,

The dog days of August that are upon us bring more than sweat to sticky Washington in summer. They even can bring some refreshing air, hot though it may be, as members of Congress struggle with the quintessential question many of us face at this time: where to go on vacation.

Unlike the president, lawmakers don't get a heavy dose of daily briefings early in the morning on security and political matters, nor do they need to contend with an unwieldy bureaucracy and world events.

No doubt the ladies and gentlemen of Congress--most of whom we presume are hardworking lawmakers when they are not out campaigning--take time to join their families or, perhaps, do one of our favorite things: nap in a hammock no matter the heat. We hope that while they are out and about in the hinterlands these politically brave souls of Capitol Hill will run into a few regular Joes and Jills who will give 'em what for.
