We Won't Be a Banana Republic: To Those Who Want to Own This Country for Britain, Govern It for the British Empire as in the Past, We Say Here on This National Shrine That the Game Is Up and It Is Time for Them to Go

Article excerpt

We are a people that came into being, that made a nation against the resolute will of the unjust and powerful. We are a child that imperialism would never have wanted to see born.

Each grave here speaks to our nation. Those who lie here struggled and died for a cause and that cause is fundamentally the land which must come back: which is coming back and, for the peasant, which has come back in significant quantities.

This is the land which until now, was being held by sons of our colonial oppressors at our expense. This is the land which our victorious heroes could never desire to see remaining in the hands of the people they defeated.

Colonialism came from the European Union; the arms that imposed and defended it on our continent came from the European Union; the wielders of those arms were Europeans, we now call farmers and industrialists; we now call overseas investors; we now call pro-democracy forces. They are the same people who massacred us only yesterday to prevent the onset of the same democracy they claim to want to usher in today.

Today, as we take our land, in the process settling the grievance of all grievances, indeed setting the social question that has remained unanswered in many situations of history and contemporary politics, we ask the so-called Free World these questions:

Do democracies enslave; do democracies colonise; do democracies discriminate, massacre, plunder and expropriate? Do democracies wait for bloody revolutions to understand and appreciate social justice; to relinquish the spoils of ill-gotten colonial plunder; do they wait for the Third Chimurenga and gallant acts of defiance to agree to share with those to whom the land belongs? Are democrats puppeteers?

Let Europe answer these questions before it engages the rest of mankind. Let it count its wrongs in history and then let the rest of mankind give it a stone so we can see whether it will still have the stamina to cast it on the so-called undemocratic. Our heroes would scorn us if we turned out to be a mere banana republic which waxes and wanes as pleases the powerful. They expect us to be brittle, very brittle when it comes to our sovereignty.

Let Europe banish all holy men who obey their conscience and stand by our cause; let Europe banish all the disabled; banish all wives, banish all children, all brothers, all sisters, all cousins. Let Europe's list grow by another 50, another 100, another 1,000, another million, grow by all but the stooges they sponsor here, stooges who gladden them. …
