The Boring Institute of Maplewood, N.J., has a list of "back-to-school tips" that it calls "How to Turn School Into an Exciting Learning Experience." Each year about this time, institute founder Alan Caruba tells for the people, he gets a load of e-mails requesting a copy of the list. Caruba notes that "the No. 1 complaint about school is that it is boring," which frequently is cited as a reason for dropping out. He hopes his advice will help turn around that all-too-normal reaction and make school a good place to be instead of a grind.

For the people thinks the Boring Institute's list provides sage and pertinent advice, so here it is:

1. Go with the flow. What could be easier than to show up on time, do what is asked of you and take full advantage of the learning opportunities school offers?

2. Go to bed! Staying up late to watch TV or "hang out" drains your brain of the power it needs to learn. Begin the day, as well, with a good breakfast. …
