* In the article, "Principal reports pastor's misdeeds; now she's ousted" (NCR, Sept. 13), Barbara Samide is ordered to leave, because of her allegations against a pastor. Yet, during the last several months, we have discovered that accused male child molesters in the Catholic clergy have been kept on payroll. Investigations have shown that these same clergy who have been moved around from diocese to diocese, remain "in good standing." Is the way Ms. Samide was fired fair, while accused child molesters are protected?

It seems that when women are involved, there is a pattern of inequity in the church. For over a hundred years, Catholic schools were staffed by women's religious communities. When many members of these teaching communities left, and were once again lay members of the church, they discovered that for the five, 10, 15 or more years they worked for a diocese, no Social Security had been paid for them. …
