The School of Information Studies at Syracuse University has announced that Gary E. Strong is the winner of the second 21st-Century Librarian Award. It has also announced that alumna Jean Armour Polly is the winner of the first 21st-Century Librarian of Central New York Award.

The 21st-Century Librarian Award recognizes the role librarians play in shaping the information environment, and consists of a $5,000 cash award.

Strong is currently the director of the Queens Borough Public Library. He is a member of many organizations, including the New York State Advisory Council on Libraries, the National Research Council Committee on Intellectual Property Rights, ALA, and the Queens College Library School Advisory Board. He has also published articles in professional journals and newsletters. Strong is the recipient of the 2001 National Library Service Award, presented by the Institute of Museum and Library Service, and the 1996 Distinguished Service Award, presented by the Chinese American Librarians Association. …
