Saatchis clocks in with Swatch

Saatchi and Saatchi looks likely to land Swatch International's first worldwide corporate campaign following its appointment to handle projects for the rest of 1990.

The pitch, fought out by Saatchi and BBDO Switzerland since the beginning of the year, will be resolved in September.

Erick Rikenmann, marketing and advertising manager for Swatch International in Switzerland, refuses to say anything before then, other than to confirm that Saatchis will be employed "on a project basis".

But the appointment puts Saatchis in a good position to scoop the entire international business for 1991, as Swatch will not want to upset its image by switching agencies too often in a short period.

Saatchis Milan, which has handled the account since June 1989, created the work which appeared in the UK this spring and summer. A spokesman for Swatch's UK distributor Louis Newmark confirms: "Swatch's success is based on its marketing policies so it has to be careful who it chooses. …
