Chickens and Roads a New Source of Fun. (for the People)

The following "quotes" from mostly well-known folks were forwarded to for the people by a colleague of INSIGHT's who had it from a friend whose father had sent it to her. They're the responses a number of people might make to that age-old query, "Why did the chicken cross the road?" They're apocryphal, of course, but are wonderfully funny and read like the people purported to have made them. This column tips its hat to their anonymous creators.

President George W. Bush: "I don't think I should have to answer that question."

Al Gore: "I invented the chicken. I invented the road. Therefore, the chicken crossing the road represented the application of these two different functions of government in a new, reinvented way designed to bring greater services to the American people."

Ralph Nader: "The chicken's habitat on the original side of the road had been polluted by unchecked industrial greed. The chicken did not reach the unspoiled habitat on the other side of the road because it was crushed by the wheels of a gas-guzzling SUV."

Pat Buchanan: "As every loyal citizen knows, the chicken crossed the road to steal a job from a decent, hardworking American. …
